Population of honeybees getting depleted, thanks to mobile phones

Technology has its own pros and cons. A research has revealed that excessive cell phone usage has cause the honeybee population to decrease worldwide. It has been noticed that when a cellphone rings near a hive, buzzing noise produced by bees increases 10 times. The frequency emitted by phones confuses the bees and they start flying unpredictably. After this they die because of disorientation caused.

Bees like keeping away from these harmful signals. It has been noticed that over the past 30 years, the population of bees in US and UK has fallen down by 50%. Pollination is important for the development of new seeds and 30% time’s honeybees are responsible for it. They are a major help and important part of the agriculture industry. If bees keep dying at such a rate, pollination will become a problem and this in turn will have an impact on the amount of food produced. So, we need to realize this and take a step to come up with a solution before it becomes a threat. This will create an imbalance in nature which is not a good sign.

The Bees:

One of the most familiar insects in the world is the Honeybee. This insect plays a key role in the human and natural world. They are social insects and live in hives. They work together in a highly structured social order. Each bee belongs to one of three specialized groups called castes. The different castes are: queens, drones and workers. They are the most important reason for pollination and the part that attracts the pollen grains is their body hair. Bees also produce honey and store it in honeycombs.

Honey Bee and Pollination:

Pollination gives birth to new seeds and the only specie that does the job is Apis Mellifera. This honeybee specie has been exploited extensively for pollinating plants at a commercial level hence, yielding a lot of income.

Honey and its usage:

Bees use nectar from flowers to make sweet food that we call honey, which is stored in the honeycomb. It is used for a variety of purposes like cooking, baking and also as a sweetener in beverages. Honey comes loaded with a lot of useful properties. It can be used to cure wounds and infections, to treat gastric or peptic stomach ulcers and for throat infections. This antioxidant also works effectively when it comes to keeping oral bacteria at bay.

Honey Bees produce a natural wax in their beehives which is called beeswax. It is used for a variety of purposes like in lip balms, candles, crayons, polishes, etc. but most of all it is used for foundation of new honeycomb in hives.

Bee pollen is said to contain all the nutrients needed to sustain a life and is often referred as nature’s perfect food. It is one of the purest natural food and has nutritional plus medicinal value.

Bees collect a resinous substance from tree buds called Propolis. It consists of antioxidants called flavonoids, and is available in many forms, including tablet, capsule, ointment, powder, extract, cream, lotion and other cosmetics. It’s available as a nutritional supplement which is consumed by humans.

Honey Bee’s Venom usage:

Venom in literal words means poisonous secretion by animals, but this poison can have beneficial effects as well. Bee venom can be used as a treatment for rheumatism and joint diseases due to its anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties. The two components that have anti-inflammatory properties are Mellitin and Adolapin. It is also helpful in case someone is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and Lyme disease.

Honey Bee and Human Diet:

Pollination is an important process in the reproduction of flowering plants. It leads to creation of new seeds which in turn grow into new plants. Bees, butterflies, moths, flies, and hummingbirds pollinate plants, accidentally. Honey bees are responsible for pollinating plants almost 80% and human diet majorly consists of food stuff that has been derived from plants pollinated by insects.
